Time: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM CST
Event Description:
Barron County Woodland Owners annual meeting
Land trusts, conservation easements, and passing on your land to be focus of Barron County Woodland Owners annual meeting

Owners of woodlands interested in the legalities of holding and transferring land, including the options of conservation easements and family land trusts, are invited to attend the annual meeting of the Barron County Woodland Owners Association at 1 pm on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at the Masonic Hall at 225 West South Street in Rice Lake.
Please note that this meeting will NOT cover MFL contracts and property taxes (though contacts and resources for more information on these topics will be offered). Rather, the focus will be on means of ensuring a smooth succession of land ownership to other family members, and/or conserving your family’s forest land through land conservancy trusts.
Attorney Ben Lane of Wiley Law will discuss legal vehicles for the holding and transfer of real estate, and conservationist Rick Remington of Landmark Conservancy will discuss conservation easements and conservation trusts. In addition, a BCWOA member will discuss their expectations and experiences. A short question and answer period will follow the panel’s presentations.

In addition, Barron County DNR forester Janette Cain will give a brief update on the restructuring of the agency, and member Ed Forrester will present a short film on historic logging practices.
The program will end with a brief meeting and board elections. The meeting is open to the public, and coffee and cookies will be provided.
